About Brian
Brian Byrne was born in Brisbane, in Australia. He is the youngest of a large family who are originally from Julia Creek in the Queensland outback. His part-time resume includes service station attendant, trotting-track clerk, and laundromat manager. As a business school student at the University of Queensland he went on a working vacation to clean cabins in the snow in Yosemite Valley. In the middle of an El Niño blizzard he met the love of his life and eventually settled in her hometown, San Francisco.
In California, Brian pursued a corporate career in payments technology, spending twenty-one years with Visa Inc and then another ten managing a global fintech company that among other things, brought chip cards to the world of payments.
Over time his lifelong passion for reading morphed into one for writing. Long haul international flights for work also provided time to create the first draft of his novel, Verity Creek. That was followed by his pandemic project, a play — A Corporate Affairs Christmas. In 2023 he left the corporate world and now writing and volunteering occupy his days and evenings.
He is presently writing a sequel to Verity Creek and exploring several new play concepts.
Brian still lives in San Francisco with his wife of thirty-eight years. He is a dual citizen and feels at home in Queensland and California. His two adult children are out on their own, but he considers it a success that they often want to hang out with their parents.
